After great consideration, I've decided to end this blog! Unfortunately I feel I have outgrown musings of a mentalist, it was created 3 long years ago, remember. I've loved writing (a lot of crap) on here and filling everyone in on the rather psychotic things I've gotten upto, but I've decided I'm far too adult (*ahem*) for such things and need to move onto bigger and more grown up things. Think of it more like, moving from a dingy student apartment to a swanky new apartment (that isn't that swanky, and needs a lot of help...but has potential) and you're ALL invited. keep up to date with my tumblr blog to see my more poetic musings, photography and design, fashion and visual inspirations!

Back Back BACK
Exam done. Fashion show attended. Articles (nearly) written. Things are almost returning to their banal normal, which is disheartening at most, especially as I had such a great time feasting my eyes upon Laura Sheriffs' provocatively placed feathers and Jaime Johnston's spiked heel-less platforms, but more on that later. To look forward to however, There is the S.T.A.G pop-up shop on saturday and I have the great joy of helping out the Vauxhall Fashion Scout award winners backstage at LFW, So I am ecstatic about that and only have to wait about 3 weeks until that all gets underway. Then after that, back to uni.
Here's a set that kind of resembles what I wore to the apocalyptic gothic style of the Laura and Jaime fashion show in Aberdeen on sunday.
This song is something i'm currently listening to as one of my friends is heading to Berlin to intern for a year, although I hope she has a lot of fun I'm really going to miss her!

BLOG HIATUS
until 18th of August.
Ok, so I promised you designer profiles in the lead-up to LFW, and in the absence of that it seems that I have lied. However, I’m here to tell you that I am not a big fat stinking liar, I have been caught up in personal shmehminameh and hoo haa, I’ve been awkwardly dancing as an extra for a movie shot on redchurch st and I’ve been studying for an exam coming up that’s ready to recklessly violate and stretch my minds perimeters. So please excuse me this and I promise I’ll be back upon the completion of the evil examination.
Anyhow, heres a quick set based on outfits ive been wearing wondering round Shoreditch (I’m pretty sure my lazy approach to dressing has culminated in me looking homeless) before the riots which made me shut myself in at home praying for the youth of today and the safety of Londoners.

I’ve got something I would quite like to introduce to you. Bloggers and blog readers, meet fashion156.com . It really is a go-to source for anyone with an interest in fashion. I recommend it for the simple fact that there are many people with an interest in fashion without any knowledge of the industry, its imperative that anyone intending to go into fashion is acquainted with what that entails. I think we all know its not all Vogue and Chanel, yet there seems to be an oversaturation of people trying to get into fashion who don’t quite know what’s going on. Its so important that you have a comprehensive knowledge of designers, photographers, exhibitions and even musicians and artists. Recently I have become quite disillusioned with the idea of higher education, the degree I’m doing had, I thought, no relevance to the grand visions I had for my future (I’m studying English and film culture). Strangely, as troubled thoughts of dropping out and interning till I had a palpable knowledge swirled around in my head, Fashion156 brought up The Debate . Basically, it’s a post on the fashion156 blog discussing the benefits of experience in fashion vs. the benefits of a degree, so I thought I would be of use to people reading this whether you’re still at school, in uni or have finished a degree. Countdown to LFW.
So on Saturday, the 2 month countdown to LFW began. I am terribly excited, being a born and bred Londoner I get excited about any sort of international focus on my beloved city. I’m like a proud and pushy parent wanting to show off the many talents of my child and LFW is definitely a chance to showcase London. We natives get an even greater creative license to go all out with our sartorial dress, (as if night outs in Shoreditch weren’t enough!) and get a chance to reveal our many raw design talents and our eccentric style in front of the world.
London really is the multi-cultural melting pot of style and design when it comes to renowned fashion weeks. New york is sophiscated urban minimalism, Milan embodies glamazon goddesses in sexualised tailoring, paris presents gamine and androgynous chic, whilst in London, anything (cool and eccentric) goes! So with that in mind, I’ve decided that once a week in the coming months until fashion week, I will post on my favourite designers past and present that show in London and embody that true brit insouciance and cool. What are all of your favourite British designers?

Before I move off....
I've just sort of been obsessed with this, its Mount Kimbie 'before i move off '. Just wanted to share it with y'all, beautiful collection of images in the video too (check out the video here). They're also playing Field Day, so get on it and book your tickets 'cause its gonna be amazing (i assure you, noone paid me to say that). I don't even know what genre of music this is...ambient hip hop maybe? I've been really getting into it though, this and Flying Lotus, SBTRKT and The weeknd. On another note, I’ve been doing absolutely nothing, I don’t have a job at the moment so I’ve been lazily lounging on my sofa popping grapes into my mouth and gallantly munching on chicken drumsticks, looking all Romanesque and awesome as I do. Was wondering round spitalfields today (before I managed to get caught in-between the closing doors of the central line tube-embarrassing, and may or may not have broken my wrist in the process) and saw a whole bunch of things I would have bought if my current financial situation was not so abject, you cannot even imagine how my heart broke at the thought of not acquiring the beauties I discovered, delicious kimonos for £20! Well at least my eyes were sartorially fed and I have suitable leather dresses to vamp in at home.
P.S. I want/need/covet/lust for a pair of patent Doc Martens, so I can pair it with sheer (slutty) dresses, leather jackets and oxidised silver spangly jewellery…good look?

Is This Real Life: STAG Aberdeen
A S.T.A.G studio shoot featuring a collection by Jaime Johnstone.
S.T.A.G (Scottish Talents And Graduates) Studio is a new Scottish fashion company focused on promoting the Scottish fashion industry. I’m tremendously interested in this as although I live in London, I study in Aberdeen, Scotland and can see such great potential for the city to develop a notable cultural hub BUT I also see the lack of significant promotion and platforms for talented creatives to have their work noticed and that really is a shame to me! That is why I am very very happy to post that S.T.A.G is bringing Aberdeen its very first pop up shop on Saturday 20th August at Korova Klub from 1pm-6pm (put it in your diary!) giving you the opportunity to buy direct from designers on the day and get an insight into the varied designing, modelling, styling, photography (the list truly does go on) talents that Scotland has to offer.
I’ll be dragging myself there, to have a good look and pry (hopefully with a brand new SLR-hopefully!) Really do hope to see some of you there!

The Herschel Supply Co.
The Herschel Supply Company is a brand I've recently started looking at. They make backpacks, bags and all sorts of accessories. Never really thought I was particularly into backpacks until I saw this and I began some sort of ridiculous frantic search and came across this brand. To be honest, I think its the lookbook that sold it for me, its so beautifully shot.
Looking at these images makes me want to take a road trip really badly too, which would be easier if I could drive. Should hopefully be travelling a lot over the next year, mostly just through Europe to see a couple of friends who are studying/interning/working abroad this year and up and down the UK for Is This Real Life?, so I'm excited at the opportunity to get away from my university town as I hate staying in the same place for too long, I start to feel stagnant.

Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2012
Word of advice, never blog beside a man. I've been going over the 35 simply amazing looks that were shown in milan for Roberto Cavalli and my boyfriend has been mumbling beside me about what he does like (pretty much nothing) and what he doesnt like (pretty much everything) and it's really irritating. We finally decided (/i bullied him into allowing me) to post this video and these images. I love it. The bright colour on colours are my favourites, it brings a clean and sophisticated air to the playfulness of summer brights. However, i do have a penchant for clean white on white lines, i feel it it such a youthfully adult way to dress in urban setting.
Anyway, here are a 2 outfit sets inspired by this menswear collection....

very happy with my new blank jeans from glassworks (click the lnk above), theyr so comfy and less than £40 and my new topshop creepers! im also on a MAJOR white blazer search. was going nuts for them last summer and didnt find one, but this year, THIS YEAR! i shall own a white blazer, because im not going to give up!
heading back to Londonium tomorrow (sans camera, ive lost it :( ), very excited to be back home!

Carven A/W 2011-2012

I am obsessed. And rightly so, look at this! Guillaume Henry, you must stop giving me heart palpitations of this magnitude. How gorgeous is that mustard coat with huge fur sleeves? And the final dress? Simone De Beauvoir was cited as a muse for this presentation (read ‘the second sex’ and let French feminist philosophy transform your life), and rightly so, she would approve. The look is intellectual, sexy and unquestionably wearable. The hip length blazers and pea coats in particular make me swoon.
This whole thing is so me, (if you dont believe me consult my i'm a liar post outfit ) I would wear everything. A friend once told me I was the Anna Dello Russo of minimalism, because I somehow happen to maximise all my basic pieces, this collection is the maximalist of minimalism! Its so simple, so traditional yet so modern. So falling-in-love worthy! I’m loving the navys, mustard and oranges definitely colours I shall be working into my wardrobe this autumn winter. The styling of the collection should also be praised the preppy tailoring clashes delightfully with the john lennon-esque shades giving it an almost clinical sci-fic feel that works so wonderfully i think. This collection hits store in July i think, im more than a little excited to have a good rifle through

Deadly Ponies
Ok, so these are beautiful right? Yeah, that’s what I thought too. GORGE.
Now, let me tell you the story. I spied a beautiful Australian willowy figure in the bathroom of whisky mist carrying this cage-like slashed bag, and after pawing over her bag and touching its supple leather and generally keeping her captive in the loo for half an hour she told me she’d purchased it from Deadly Ponies a New Zealand brand that hand finishes all their products, yes that’s right, hand finishes ALL their products. So, a Google here and e-mail there and the very nice people at Deadly Ponies sent me these shots of some their current collection called ‘Egg white and blue’.
The royal blue bag, called the Mohawk sling, although not my style blew my mind and my flatmates, (I still have the scratch marks from where she dug her nails into me and shouted ‘where? Where can I get that?’) it has such a cool urban yet boho Navajo feel that I can see easily working its way into several wardrobes in the east end of London. And the camel, oh the camel bag. It’s just the representation of my style and I truly believe I deserve it so I can strut with my camel coat on dreary days, and at such reasonable prices (seriously, I’m even talking student loan affordable) I think…I know I have to get one, and you can buy them here and they are currently taking pre-orders! Oooh and look at the Mr bone Mailman bag, Delicious!

It's official next fashion week, I SHALL BE THERE! I refuse to sit at home and look at pictures, i shall be taking pictures and strutting and seeing shows, because the melancholic feelings darkening my heart and coursing through my veins is destroying me!
Don't you just love all the colours in this shot though? I don't know why but it gives me a really carnival feel, which is quite the opposite of F/W collections, maybe its something to do with the fact i had been watching the BBC FOUR Reggae Britannia season and feeling a desperate need for summer, bright colours and dancing to this song!

S&M
I don't know what it is about this track but it gets me all 'RA-ARGHGAHHAHARAHRURGHGA'
if that makes no sense im not surprised.
all you need to know is that 'chains and whips excite me' apparently.
I'm in desperate need of night out though, where I will wear skimpy clothes and my new MAC girl about town lipstick and sort of just strut. I have too much fun on those nights and but I cant really do them when I'm not in london/ brighton/ leeds/ manchester/ newcastle because people look at you funny. I am trying to get over it and become more daring in other places than my hometown but being in a small university town leads to lots of talk, even if im going for a Pheobe Philo minimalist look I hear a lot of backchat.
I'm sort of thinking of a new blogging concept I will run alongside this one that addresses that matter head on, I might even let my uni friends see it!
But running on the S&M theme, heres a kinky sort of shoot with Lara Bingle.
Is it just me or or are maximalist sex-driven shoots hard to find nowadays, everyone seems to be afraid to get models naked unless its done 'artfully'. Where's Terry Richardson when you need him? with Anna wintour behind the bike shed...? go figure. (you know where to go for those images)

Business news on a SUNDAY?!?!?!?
It’s been a delightful day, despite the mind numbingly great scores of revision I’m having to do for tomorrow’s exam. Have received awesome news from two companies about internships! This is of course excellent news for me and I am so beyond content it’s unreal, I am however having to contain my over animated excitement to settle down and mill over Shakespeare! It’s all good though I shall be grooving and grinding once the exams are over to celebrate the good news!
Also whilst in London has some really cool opportunities to bump into some really talented artist, namely Jessie J (who I’ve got an ace picture of), Drake and Florence Welch. The set above is a wee look at the rather abject outfit i was wearing the night i met Jessie, who is so petite and gorge in real life. Tis all for now! I’ll probably be back in a couple of days yelling about something new

I'm a Liar...

I'm a liar because i promised i was back and well i havent posted in 3 months! i feel so bad about it, i love posting here, so i'm going to try more often, honestly there is not a lot to post about, my life has been sartorially disturbed by cold weather and my mental delinquency which has made me sit in the the house for the past 2 months moaning at my coupled up flatmates about how miserable my life is. But the outfit i put together was for one of my first nights out in TOO long, i wondered along to the TATE to look at the turner nominees an then onto a friends for a rather sparse plate of food and a great dal of wine before heading to (mindblank...somewhere east, i was drunk and cant remember) where i got extra excited and grinded on hot models and got them to give me piggy backs til we could find a taxi back to hampstead. i'm actually really glad i went out, finally felt like me again after being the depressing bore i have been of late!

Havin bought myself a great pair of new frames from colette in paris and had them filled in with my usual prescription (i'm actually very blind) i've embraced my love of tailoring to all new heights. Before it was all about sexualising officewear despite the fact i dont even work in an office, i wanted billowing sheer shirts unbuttoned low to expose lace bra straps (intentionally) and tight grey pencil skirts with fitted black blazers and sky high heels with a smal studded suff or a bib necklace, something to give it a modern and quirky edge. Now, i just want my comfy ballet flats or brogues, with knee high socks whilst i hide behind my glasses and berets. IVE BECOME AMELIE (plus optical lenses). However i cant deny my love of leather and high waists that runs with me everywhere.
this has sort of become a usual look for me, i blame american apparel, having always been a fan and being holed in one for an hour and half in a snow storm whilst i was in glasgow (i could leave but i was enthralled by the city shorts) i literally spent my whole monthlywage in that place. now have a plethora of button down shirts, a myriad of high waisted cord, cuffed and high waisted shorts, denim pencil skirts, cable knit sweaters, pastel cardigans and deep v neck tees. i literally had enough shopping to drown the city of glasgow.
love it though, fits all my wonderful gap basics!
its late nw so got to shoot to bed gonna try and see the llusionist tomorrow! been waiting fr it for ages!

luxury IS camel coats and studs...you heard it here first by Miss Daisy Chain featuring christian louboutin shoes
In my honest humble opinion, luxury is about comfort. If acquiring something makes you uncomfortable financially, physically or emotionally, it sure aint a luxury! (this is relevant to shoes and men!)
The set above is an example of my personal style, I take risks with my style whilst trying to play it safe. It's an interesting place to be, like i'm teetering around the edge in stillettos with a rusty harness. I'm currently wearing the look right now minus celine bag-like i have that kind of money! and minus christian louboutin louis shoes-soon, i shall own those beauties soon! and minus azzedine alaia platforms-again-like i have that kind of money! i have replaced the sweet studded hi tops with my beat up converses, i love the contrast of my ugly shoes with my brand spanking new ankle length camel coat courtesy of very.com (thanks twiggy) and ive been rubbing the waxy chanel rouge coco all over my lips over the past couple of days as though i were some sort of crusty old harlot vying for customers-but i like it.
the turban(-inator) was a little thing i picked up on my second trip to new york this year and i decided it was someething i would be working into my personal style, y'know, just because. I enjoy it muchas.
